SUNSHINE POOL
OUR KIDS, OUR COMMUNITY, OUR POOL
Meeting with The Honourable Justin Madden, Minister Marsha Thomson and
Trades Hall President Peter Marshall
On Tuesday 14 November 2006 Sunshine Mothers’ Group met with the Minister for Sport and Recreation Justin Madden, Minister for Consumer Affairs Marsha Thomson and Trades Hall President Peter Marshall.
At the above meeting the Ministers confirmed that a 25 metre FINA World Swimming Championships pool has been allocated to the Sunshine Swim & Leisure Centre which will be part of an outdoor complex based on the North Melbourne Pool model. This is in addition to works currently underway at the site.
In relation to funding the State Government has also allocated $25,000 for a feasabliity study and local Council will be encouraged by the State Governement to place a submission for further funding. It is expected that the partnership proposal would be viewed favourably as Brimbank Council is recognised as an area of high need.
Further, the Ministers indicated that they could not comment on behalf of the Council but were encouraged by the pro active and positive discussions that have been occurring with Council.
POOL DELIVERY DATE CONFIRMED AS MAY 2007.
The Ministers confirmed that the pool will be delivered to Sunshine in May 2007. It is anticipated that works will commence prior to May 2007 in preparation for delivery.
The Mothers Group representatives were reassured by the positive reinforcement by both Ministers of the State Government's position in allocating a pool to the community of Sunshine. We are more than confident after this meeting that this will now become a reality.
This is a great outcome for the whole of our community which will benefit from increased water and recreational space. Our youth will once again be able to grab a towel and head off to the pool to meet friends and socialise. Our families will have a fantastic place to swim and get together. This pool will rejuvenate and enliven the heart of Sunshine.
The State Government in conjunction with the Brimbank Council are working together to deliver this pool and the new outdoor complex to the Sunshine community.
The Sunshine Mothers' Group look forward to working with the Council to achieve better facilities for the residents and youth of the Sunshine community and are pleased that the State Government and Council are working together to resolve this protracted isssue.
The Mothers Group representatives were impressed with the frank and direct discussion of The Honorable Justin Madden.
